Zoning Regulations & Permits
Zoning is the method that a municipality regulates land use and structures within its boundaries. Zoning along with Subdivision & Land Development Ordinances are the two key methods that help a community achieve is planning objectives as outlined in a comprehensive plan.
Zoning was first used as a way to prevent one property owner from using their property in a way which was a nuisance or harmful to their neighbors. Zoning continues today to have an important role in communities such as Londonderry Township to help achieve planning objectives, protect property owner rights, and create a well developed and sustainable community.
Zoning and other land use ordinances are governed by the Pennsylvania Municipalities Planning Code (MPC).
Londonderry Township adopted its current Zoning Ordinance through Ordinance 1983-4 on December 5th, 1983. The Ordinance is reflected in the Londonderry Township Code of Ordinances as Chapter 27. The Ordinance has been updated and revised multiple times over the years to reflect the current language
