Senior Services

V.I.P. Van Service

The V.I.P. van service is for seniors, 65 and over, who are residents of Londonderry Township. The van provides transportation to and from doctor and hospital appointments. If possible, other locations within Dauphin County may be scheduled. The van is not handicapped accessible. Residents must be able to get in and out of the van without assistance. There is no charge for this service.

This service is only possible through the efforts of volunteers. We are currently seeking volunteers to take phone requests and to schedule drivers.  We also need volunteers to drive the van. A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are required. Both of these volunteer opportunities can fit anyone's schedule.

For more information about the VIP Van Service call 717-317-3402 between 10am and 12 Noon, Monday thru Friday. The van does not operate on weekends.

Meals-On-Wheels

The Dauphin County Area Agency on Aging provides a well-balanced hot meal for delivery to residents of Dauphin County who are assessed by the Agency's Care Management Unit as being frail, and/or home bound because of physical, mental, or emotional disability, and without a caregiver who is able to provide meals on a regular basis. Meals are delivered five days a week by volunteers who observe the well-being of the home bound individual receiving the meal.

The volunteers are recruited by our local “Meals-on-Wheels” organization. Recipients are encouraged to make a voluntary contribution toward the cost of the meals according to their financial ability.

To request home delivered meals, please call the Dauphin County Area Agency on Aging at 717-780-6130.

Community Outreach

Londonderry Lionettes

Londonderry Lionettes is an organization of women who perform community service projects. The organization began with 11 charter members in 1981 and remains steady with 25 current members from Londonderry Township and the surrounding area. Service projects have extended beyond Londonderry Township to neighboring communities. The group meets the first Wednesday of the month (with the exception of July and August) at 7:00 p.m. at Londonderry Fire Company. For information about the Lionettes contact Louise Morgan at 717-944-6518.

CHANGE LIVES ONE PAIR AT A TIME
The Londonderry Lionettes are collecting used eyeglasses.  The eyeglasses are sent to a local Lions Club who forwards them to the Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center, where they are cleaned, sorted by prescription strength, packaged, and distributed to people in low and middle-income communities.  They do not accept sunglasses, eyeglass cases or loose lenses.  To date, the Lionettes have collected 2,676 pairs of eyeglasses since the project began twelve years ago.

HELP THE RONALD McDONALD HOUSE
Aluminum tabs from beverage cans and canned goods are collected.  If the tab doesn’t stick to a magnet, it’s aluminum.  The tabs are sent to the Ronald McDonald House in Hershey which sells the tabs to a local recycling company.  Funds generated help support their programs.

Collection boxes for both of these programs have been placed at Karns; Londonderry Elementary School; Evangelical U.M. Church; St. Peters Lutheran Church, Presbyterian Church, Church of God;  Geyers U.M. Church; New Beginnings Church; Middletown Public Library; Sharp Shopper; Londonderry Township Building; Londonderry Fire Company, and Zion Lutheran Church.

Other sites are being sought as well. If you would like to have a collection box in your workplace, church or business, please contact Anita Housman at 717-756-7467 or Louise Morgan at 717-944-6518.
